The judging panel for the Gulfood Awards 2016 has been announced.
Now in their seventh successful year, the Gulfood Awards are designed to celebrate excellence and innovation across every category of the global food industry.
The Gulfood Awards 2016 are in association with FoodBev Media. The finalists and winners in the 2016 awards will be announced during a special gala dinner in Dubai on Sunday 21st February.
Meet the panel
Chef Uwe Micheel
Uwe is President of the Emirates Culinary Guild, and Director of Kitchens at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai
Following a glittering career in Germany, Bahrain, Korea, the UK and Japan, Uwe arrived in Dubai 23 years ago and almost instantly became the most famous chef in the city.
Sarah is editor of Caterer Middle East, published by ITP Publishing Group
Sarah moved to Caterer from another ITP magazine, Logistics Middle East, in 2015. Prior to that she worked in public relations at Dubai-based Aziza Communications. Before moving to the UAE from the UK in 2013, Sarah worked in communications for a government department and as a freelancer journalist.
Daniel G During
Daniel is the founder and principal of the region’s leading hospitality consultancy Thomas Klein International, based in Dubai Media City.
Born in Argentina, Daniel moved to Europe as a teenager and obtained his Hotel Bachelors degree in France in 1986. Following an international career with Hyatt International, he led the Wafi City project from 1997 before founding TKI in 2001.
Keith is the chair of the European Federation of Catering Equipment Manufacturers technical committee.
EFCEM represents national associations and national company representatives comprising over 600 businesses in the foodservice equipment industry. Appointed as director of the UK Catering Equipment Suppliers’ Association in 2002, in 2011 he received the NAFEM order of merit for his services in developing the Certified Food Service Professional Programme in Europe & Middle East. Before his CESA appointment, Keith spent nearly 20 years working directly with catering equipment and food companies in business to business publishing and marketing services with Reed Elsevier.
Thorsten is Director of Consulting for global food and beverage research specialist Canadean
Thorsten joined Canadean in 2013 after 18 years with MENA marketing consultancy IMES Research, later ManSci Professional Services. Now at Canadean’s headquarters in London, Thorsten used to be based in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, operating on consultancy and research projects in the food and beverage industry throughout the Middle East and Africa.
Claire is Managing Editor at FoodBev Media
Claire is a Director of UK based international food and drink specialist communication business FoodBev Media. Following a career in B2C journalism with IPC and a successful freelance career, she joined FoodBev in 2000 and is renowned throughout the food and beverage industry as a trend spotter.
Dr Iyad Hijjawi
Dr Hijjawi is Senior Regional Consultant at Euromonitor International
Dr Hijjawi is a pharmacist. He has been working with Euromonitor since 20 years, 14 years as a key research analyst for the GCC region and 6 years at the sales side as a senior regional consultant. He is looking after clients from the MENA region and he is specialised in consumer products including packaged food and health & wellness products.
Bill Bruce – chair of panel
Bill is Group Editorial Director at FoodBev Media
Bill co-founded FoodBev Media in 2000 and has been instrumental in the company’s evolution from a traditional magazine publisher to the world’s leading multi-media food and beverage communications business – with the largest social media following.
