Sports nutrition brand Optimum Nutrition has released its first plant-based protein powder, which will join the brand’s Gold Standard product range.
ON Gold Standard 100% Plant is made from a blend of organic pea, rice and sacha inchi proteins, and the powder provides 24g of protein per serving.
The powder can be mixed with water, milk or dairy-free milk and is available in three flavours: chocolate, vanilla and mixed berry.
Optimum Nutrition has created the product to cater to the growing number of consumers who are incorporating plant-based foods into their diet, as research conducted by Nielsen in 2017 concluded that 23% of consumers in the US and Canada desired more plant-based protein options.
Stuart Heflin, Optimum Nutrition’s director of North American marketing said: “As a global leader in protein, we worked to develop a premium offering to serve the growing population that prefers plant-based protein sources as part of their personal diet plans.
“It was our goal to develop a plant-based protein option that represents the level of quality, nutritional value, texture and great taste that is so closely associated with the ON Gold Standard brand.
“Whatever their reasons for choosing a plant-based protein, consumers should not have to compromise on taste and texture.
“We heard the common concerns about plant proteins – including aftertaste or chalky texture – and innovated to eliminate them. We created ON Gold Standard 100% Plant to taste great and mix easily, and we believe people will be very excited about the result.”
ON Gold Standard 100% Plant is now available from nutrition retailers in the US with a recommended retail price of $39.99.
