Orkla Food Ingredients has agreed to acquire all of the shares in Laan Heiloo, which supplies ingredients and accessories to the ice cream market.
The deal is being completed by Idun Industri, Orkla’s wholly owned subsidiary based in Norway. It will complement Orkla’s position in the ready-to-use soft-serve ice cream category, and the market for associated accessories in the Netherlands.
Laan is a family-owned business based in Heiloo, north of Amsterdam, and employs 15 people in total.
Financial details of the transaction were not publicly disclosed, but the company had a turnover of €5.8 million in 2016.
Orkla Food Ingredients CEO said: “This acquisition is in line with Orkla’s desire to grow in selected categories and markets where we see potential for further growth and synergies. We already hold a strong position in the Netherlands soft-serve ice cream market, and our purchase of Laan will also strengthen our foothold in the gelato segment.”
Among Laan’s products are a range of metal trays for use in ice cream parlours, as well as supplies and ingredients for owners.
It comes six months after Orkla Food Ingredients acquired a 70% stake in Dutch bakery ingredients and ice cream powder manufacturer Broer Bakkerijgrondstoffen for €6 million.
