At the new fountain, Parisians will now be able to get sparkling water for free. And separate taps will mean that it won’t be at the expense of choice. The fountains will also provide still, ambient and chilled water, all from the city’s municipal supply, which comes from underground springs and filtered river water.
On the Eau de Paris website, it states: ‘Now, at a picnic or a stroll in the garden, learn other aspects and other benefits to the water of Paris: bubbly, fun, practical and sustainable. Gone are the sparkling water in bottles and lively bubbles directly from the tap!’
The fountain injects carbon dioxide into regular tap water to turn it into ‘sparkling water’, and it is then chilled before exiting the fountain dispenser.
