Lactalis-owned yogurt brand Siggi’s has launched a new range which features whole milk yogurt and a side of dried fruits and nuts.
Called Simple Sides, four flavours are available: vanilla yogurt with dried coconut and cacao nibs, honey yogurt with dried figs and walnuts, vanilla yogurt with almonds and dried cherries, and plain yogurt with muesli and currants.
After observing a uptick in consumers searching for less sugary snack options, the Icelandic-style yogurt brand set out to create what it describes as “a nutritiously complete snack” with no added sugar.
The product varieties contain on average 15 grams of protein and 11 grams of sugar per 5.3-ounce serving, which is said to be a more positive nutritional profile than other mix-ins yogurts.
Siggi’s founder Siggi Hilmarsson said: “Our mission has always been to provide yogurts that are lower in sugar, have a simple ingredient list and taste great.
“This new launch follows the same philosophy. Yogurt with crunchy, tasty toppings as a side has become a popular snack among consumers in recent years. However many of those offerings are sadly more comparable to sugary treats than wholesome snacks.
“Siggi’s Simple Sides combine some of our classic yogurt flavours with simple toppings like dried fruit, nuts and coconut. All these toppings are made without any added sugar.”
Earlier this year Lactilis bought the US brand after Emmi sold a 22% stake, just days after it released a 4% fat skyr yogurt range made with no added sugar.
Siggi’s Simple Sides are now on sale in the US in a 5.3-ounce serving size for a suggested retail price of $1.99.
