1 litre and 3 x 200ml Sleep Well
Jersey-based dairy company Sleep Well has developed and released a new natural milk drink which “helps travellers relax and sleep,” as the drink contains valerian – a herb which has relaxing qualities once consumed.
Targeted at consumers who struggle to sleep in unfamiliar surroundings such as hotels, the drink helps reduce the ‘first night effect’, the state of mind which puts travellers on alert in a new environment.
The brand claims that consumers drinking the blend of Jersey milk, honey and valerian thirty minutes before they want to sleep will find it easier to relax and get to sleep.
Available in 200ml cartons, the drink can be conveniently stored in hotel mini fridges or on planes, while a 1-litre carton is also available.
Vanilla is the only flavour which has been released at this time, though the brand claims a chocolate variant will be released this year.
Allan and Sam Watts – founders of Sleep Well
The company was co-founded by husband and wife Allan and Sam Watts, and the milk used for the drink is produced by the Jersey cows that live at their home on the island.
Co-founder Sam Watts said: “We’ve created a natural solution to a very modern and common problem. We all know it’s really important to make time to relax and calm your body and mind as part of preparing to get a great night’s sleep.
“But that’s made harder when you are out of routine, adjusting to different time zones or in unfamiliar surroundings.”
“We run our own business, which involves frequent travel, and juggle this with bringing up two teenage boys so we understand the stress and strains that our ‘always-on’ modern life can bring.
“We recognise the many benefits that result from getting a great night’s sleep. It makes such a big difference to how you feel and what you can achieve every day – whether you are on holiday or travelling with work.”
The drink is available directly from Sleep Well through its online store, and the brand secured its first UK retail listing with Fortnum & Mason in December 2017.
