California-based Smart Cups has released its first line of energy drinks, which are packaged in 3D-polycapsule printed cups.
When water is added to the cup it is turned into an energy drink by the self-stirring cup, as the energy drink contents are microencapsulated in the packaging.
Smart Cups claims that the 100% biodegradable 3D-printed cups are the first of their kind.
The drinks contain zero calories and no sugar, and are currently available in four flavours: Tropical Recess, Pucker Up Brain Boost, Nerdy Lemon and Magna Cum Latte.
The company says the drink is targeted towards active consumers who need a convenient energy boost.
“This delivery system is a scientific breakthrough that the food and beverage industry has never seen before,” said Smart Cups chief executive officer Chris Kanik.
“Putting the power of science into a cup, Smart Cups provides a more convenient, hassle-free and eco-friendly beverage experience for consumers.”
Kanik added: “This print technology will become the new standard for a variety of industries including pharmaceutical, beverage, water purification and beyond.”
