Tetra Pak has installed a new high-capacity extrusion line for the production of ice cream sticks and sandwiches, which offers the company sector-leading operational benefits.
The new line features the highest capacity in the industry, producing up to 43,200 pieces every hour – an increase of more than 7,000 pieces on the industry average. When the line is running at full capacity, Tetra Pak added, operational costs and environmental impact are the lowest in the industry: a 60% increase in production is achieved without extra manpower and with only 44% more energy.
The efficient freezer and high-precision cutting equipment guarantee a uniform product with high stability – due to effective temperature control at every stage – as well as identical thickness. The newly developed dip and transfer unit also leads to precise dipping and an error-free lay-off to the wrapper, resulting in minimal product waste.
The line has a capacity of more than 43,000 pieces an hour.
Tetra Pak said that the technology had been introduced to satiate growing demand worldwide for ice cream products, with the market anticipated to grow by nearly 2% each year until 2019, led by regions such as Asia-Pacific, North America and Western Europe.
Tetra Pak ice cream category director Peter Lindstrom said: “For 70 years we’ve been helping our customers deliver quality ice cream products with outstanding taste and texture. This new solution allows them to increase production volumes, while delivering the same high quality at a significantly reduced cost per product.”
