According to a news release from general union GMB, official strike action will commence on 24 November for 270 GMB members employed by Haribo Confectionery in Pontefract.
A ballot for official strike action will commence on 24 November for 270 GMB members employed by Haribo Confectionery in Pontefract in a dispute over compulsory working over the Christmas period. The ballot will be open for a two-week period.
“This dispute has been caused by the company dictating to its employees rather than cooperating with them,” said Steve Huckerby, GMB regional organiser. “Members have had enough of the company’s attitude of imposing conditions irrespective of what we have agreed, or what member’s family arrangements are.”
GMB suggested to the company some time ago to ask for volunteers to work over the Christmas period and put forward an incentive, and the GMB felt sure the required number of employees would offer to work without any problems. However, GMB says the company has ignored this suggestion and is forcing members to work. This has resulted in the ballot for strike action.
