Production company Magic Light Pictures has announced the launch of a new range of cakes based on children’s character The Gruffalo, in collaboration with licensee Park Cakes.
As part of the range, a 2D Gruffalo chocolate party cake is now available in 278 Tesco stores across the UK. Filled and topped with chocolate buttercream, and finished with an edible sugar decoration, it is available with a recommended retail price of £8 and is described as “perfect for parties, tea-time treats or special picnics in the deep dark wood”.
Bakery company Park Cakes has also developed a show-stopper 3D moulded Gruffalo shaped cake and tray bake, which will hit the shelves later this year.
Magic Light Pictures brand director Daryl Shute said: “It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to extend the Gruffalo brand and allow children to further immerse themselves in this magical world through delicious food and treats. Working with Park Cakes has also been a real treat. It’s important for us to partner with licensees who are leaders in their field to develop bespoke flavours and innovative designs. Not only do Park take great care in the ingredients they use and the products they create, but they also share the same values as we do – making them the perfect partner.”
Park Cakes commercial controller Ruth Robson added: “We’ve been in the business for over 75 years and pride ourselves on the high quality of our products and ingredients, and also our partnerships. We were looking for a long-surviving brand that consumers held close to their hearts and looked upon as a part of their family. The Gruffalo immediately appeared as a clear leader. Consumers treasure the memories they have with the Gruffalo characters and the story itself. They also associate the Gruffalo with high quality products and this was the final piece of the jigsaw for Park. We can’t wait to see the children’s faces light up when they realise that now they can have the Gruffalo for tea with some terribly tasty chocolate cake!”
