Brewer’s Crackers has added baked pita chips to its line of products made from upcycled spent grain, in an attempt to fight food waste.
Available in the US, Brewer’s Pita Chips marks the company’s first new product in two years and expands its sustainability mission.
The US brand aims to reduce food waste in the craft brewing industry by using leftover spent grains to add flavour and nutrition to its line of products. To date, Brewer’s estimates that it has saved over 200,000 lbs of brewer’s spent grain from landfill.
Described as having the “crunch of a classic pita chip” but with added nutrition and flavour, Brewer’s Pita Chips come in both rosemary and sea salt variants and offer a good source of whole grains.
“Chips don’t need to be junk food and empty calories. I think Brewer’s has a unique opportunity and obligation to share upcycled grain with the world in hopes of helping people gain more nutritional and environmental value from their food dollar,” said Brewer’s Crackers founder, Kyle Fiasconaro.
“Malted grains are a not-so-secret ingredient that have been utilised in the baking industry for generations, so why not chips? It seems like an amazing way to educate and snack at the same time.”
Brewer’s Pita Chips will be available to purchase at retailers nationwide and online.
