Fairtrade pioneer Traidcraft has become the first to launch a Fairtrade, gluten-free snack bar, with the addition of four new flavour varieties to its existing portfolio.
Two new Fruity bars – cocoa and beetroot, and carrot and stem ginger – and two additional Trail bars – cocoa crunch, and banana and walnut – are being introduced to the company’s Geobar range. They are all gluten-free, marking the first time that a product of this nature has benefitted “fair trade farmers across the globe”, the company said.
It added that its four new bars were packed with real fruit and nuts from Fairtrade suppliers – including dates, raisins, cashews, bananas, walnuts and ‘soya crispies’.
Traidcraft has also secured a national listing for the full range with retailer Tesco. The Fruity range is available in packs of three bars with a recommended retail price of £2.40, while Trail bars are available in separately packaged boxes of 20, which retail at 99p each.
Jenny File, product marketing manager for Traidcraft, said: “At Traidcraft we have decades of experience developing and innovating new fair trade products, and we’re thrilled to announce this latest ‘fair trade first’ in our extensive range. “It’s great to be able to offer consumers a gluten-free option, further extending the popular ‘free from’ category whilst also changing the lives of smallholder farmers, one bite at a time.”
