In the United States, Keurig Green Mountain’s much awaited Keurig Kold machine is finally available for order through the company’s website. There is no news as yet as to when the units will be available in retail stores.
Keurig Kold gives consumers “the freedom to make all your favourite drinks like never before: always perfectly chilled – with no CO2 canisters – all at the touch of a button”.
With a relatively small counter-top footprint of 12” by 19.25” and a height of 14.9” (17.5” open), Keurig Kold can deliver an 8oz drink from a pod at a ‘perfect’ 39˚F in just 90 seconds. It can do this six times in a row, or 30 drinks when set in ‘party’ mode.
Following the company’s deal with The Coca-Cola Company, the pod drink options include Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Coca-Cola Zero, Sprite, and Fanta. Its cooperation with Dr Pepper Snapple adds Dr Pepper and Canada Dry; while it has also launched Seraphine seltzers; Tierney’s ice teas; Red Barn and Flynn’s sodas; Flyte sports hydration drinks; and Waterful flavoured waters.
Available in white or black, Keurig Kold is priced at $369.99, while the pods cost $4.99 for a box of four.
Keurig Kold isn’t the first home carbonation system to offer canister-free drinks making: in April, we reported that Canadian company Bonne O had pipped Keurig Green Mountain to market with its sparkling water, soda and cocktail maker, which also doesn’t require CO2. Then, in May, we revealed that Whirlpool and Anheuser-Busch had started selling a countertop appliance that makes carbonated drinks, coffee and fruit drinks using single-serve capsules.
