Evertis, a Portuguese barrier manufacturer, has announced plans to build a new production plant in Columbia, South Carolina.
The initial phase of the expansion will increase capacity by 30,000 tonnes in the North American packaging market and is expected to generate over 100 new full-time jobs in the region.
The expansion aims to address the rising demand for dependable and efficient packaging solutions in North America. Evertis has been serving the US market since 2000, initially supplying from plants in Mexico and Brazil.
Founded in 1959, Evertis specialises in producing barrier films for food packaging and other applications in the polymers industry.
Thomaz Gruber, executive VP operations of Evertis USA, said: “This is truly another important milestone in our journey to deliver our packaing to the doorsteps of our customers. The asset addition to our global Group production footprint will enable us to offer shorter lead times, reduce supply chain risks and better align with the increasing market demand for packaging solutions.”
The new facility, with a total investment of £100 million, is set to begin operations in 2026, with its first commercial sales anticipated later that year.
