General Mills to launch high-protein Wheaties cereal

General Mills is expanding its Wheaties cereal brand with a new high-protein offering: Wheaties Protein. Available in two flavours – Maple Almond and Honey Pecan – Wheaties Protein features nut-clustered whole grain flakes with almonds or pecans, pumpkin seeds and a hint of honey or maple syrup. The new range contains 20g of protein per serving, which the company claims is the highest-protein cereal in the aisle. Nicole Ayers, business unit director for Wheaties, said: “Wheaties has honoured world-class athletes on our iconic orange boxes for more than 100 years and we are introducing Wheaties Protein to serve today’s modern athletes who are striving to be better everyday". "We know people are looking for a boost of protein in the morning to help reach their goals, and Wheaties Protein provides over 20g of protein in a delicious bowl of cereal that people can easily enjoy as part of their morning routine.” Wheaties Protein will be available at select Walmart stores later this month, and on shelves at US retailers nationwide beginning this spring for an SRP of $8.99.
