Fortress Technology is set to unveil its latest innovation, the Icon X-Ray, at the upcoming PPMA 2024 trade show.

The Icon X-Ray is a fully integrated X-ray inspection system designed to significantly improve processing efficiency, consumer safety and contaminant detection in hygienic, high-care food production facilities.

The system features internal view cameras, an automatic reject device and Fortress Technology's proprietary IA+ algorithm, which gives the machine improved processing and detection capabilities.

Phil Brown, sales director at Fortress Technology, said: "The Icon...adds a new level of food safety and traceability now no longer reserved for the most elite food brands."

The Icon X-Ray can inspect and reject packaged chilled, baked and confectionery products at speeds of up to 200ppm. Its IA+ algorithm allows the machine to adapt to variable-density products and detect various contaminants, including metal, ceramic, glass and high-density plastic.

The system is equipped with internal cameras to monitor product status and address any operational issues. It also features transparent high-density windows on the sliding access panels that fully shield operators from X-rays while allowing them to observe the inspection process.

Designed for robust, hygienic performance, the Icon X-Ray has a fully-enclosed, maintenance-free air-cooled generator that maximises detection sensitivity and extends the lifespan of the X-ray generator. Its ultra-hygienic design supports rigorous sanitation processes, with features like bevelled, easy-clean surfaces and fully-contained panels to prevent contamination.

It also offers seamless data integration and reporting capabilities, including the ability to automatically incorporate UK retailer COPs into the testing software. Its 10-point touch industrial capacitive touchscreen display facilitates intuitive user interactions, saving time and increasing productivity.

"Strengthening food safety programs globally is a key priority, and the Icon X-Ray is designed to help food producers achieve the highest standards of quality and traceability," said Brown.
