Campbell Soup Company’s Prego brand has unveiled a new line of creamy pesto sauces, made with basil and fresh cream. The range aims to disrupt the ‘predominantly red’ Italian sauce aisle with a versatile and kid-friendly way to expand horizons in the kitchen and make pesto more ‘approachable’. Included within the new range are three varieties: Creamy Basil Pesto, Creamy Roasted Garlic Pesto and Creamy Parmesan Pesto. Each contains basil and fresh cream, with additions for each flavour including romano and parmesan cheese, and roasted garlic. The sauces were designed to combine the creaminess of Alfredo sauce with the herby taste of pesto. They can be paired with classic pasta dishes, and aim to inspire new ways to enhance vegetables, pizza, poultry, seafood, sandwiches and more. Caitlin Votava, director of marketing at Prego, commented: “Pesto is seeing the largest amount of growth within the Italian Sauce category and yet is the smallest segment. We've seen that everyone is craving more meal inspiration with new flavours, so we created creamy pesto sauces with a vision to elevate more than just pasta, while keeping weeknight dinners easy and flavorful.” The new line is available at retailers across the US, priced at $2.82 per jar.
