Beyond Meat is a US-based producer of meat alternatives, best known for its plant-based Beyond Sausage and Beyond Burger, which aims to replicate as closely as possible the appearance, texture and taste of real beef. Unlike its main competitor in the meat alternatives space, Impossible Foods, Beyond Meat has concentrated by growing through the retail channel. It was founded in 2009 by Ethan Brown and had already raised $122 million by the point it went public, including from the likes of Tyson Foods.
In May 2019, Beyond Meat launched a hotly anticipated IPO that valued it at nearly $1.5 billion. It eventually became the biggest IPO of the year to date, surpassing its initial offer of $25 per share and pointing to a market valuation closer to $4 billion within the first 24 hours.
