AB InBev closes brewery in New Hampshire, US, invests $1m in Asheville, North Carolina

AB InBev closes brewery in New Hampshire, US, invests $1m in Asheville, North Carolina

AB InBev has announced several restructuring updates to its brewing operations in the US, including a $1m investment into its Wicked Weed Brewing production in Asheville, North Carolina.

Global brewing giant AB InBev acquired craft beer company Wicked Weed Brewing in 2017. Wicked Weed is headquartered in Asheville, where the brewery originated, and now operates from four locations in North Carolina.

A spokesperson for the Asheville production facility told FoodBev that the investment will enhance brewing capabilities and further strengthen business at the site.

In line with the investment into Wicked Weed, operations at AB InBev’s Craft Brew Alliance (CBA) production facility in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, will be ceasing over the coming months.

AB InBev initially invested in CBA in 2010, purchasing the final remaining stake in the business and becoming its sole owner in 2020. The brewery’s brands include Redhook Ale Brewery, Omission Beer and Square Mile cider among others.

The spokesperson commented: “We understand the impact of this announcement on our people in Portsmouth, and we are committed to working with the local union that represents some of the CBA facility employees to provide resources for impacted employees in Portsmouth, such as severance and preferential hiring at other facilities.”
