Aldi has announced that it will invest £67 million in upgrading its existing stores across the UK in 2025 as part of its ongoing store enhancement programme.
The retailer, which is the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket, has spent nearly £600 million on store improvements since 2017. With the first phase of upgrades nearing completion, the next stage will focus on further enhancements to in-store features and sustainability measures.
The first phase of store upgrades aimed to enhance the shopping experience by offering more space for fresh, chilled and food-to-go products, along with simplified layouts, upgraded fixtures and energy-efficient LED lighting.
The upcoming improvements will include upgraded Bakery and Health and Beauty fixtures, as well as CO2 refrigeration upgrades. The refrigeration changes are expected to reduce carbon emissions by an amount equivalent to heating more than 6,500 homes.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “Aldi’s £67m investment is a major step forward in our commitment to delivering an even better shopping experience for our customers across Britain."
“Building on the success of our previous upgrades, we’re enhancing store layouts as part of our dedication to providing customers with more sustainable stores, convenience and an improved shopping experience nationwide.”
In addition to store refurbishments, Aldi plans to invest around £650 million in new store openings across Britain in 2025. Planned locations include Fulham Broadway in London, Billericay in Essex and Cheadle in Stoke-on-Trent.
