Packaging specialist Alpla has announced the opening of a new 24,000-square-metre plant in Chachoengsao, Thailand.
The modern plant, located in the town near Bangkok, is Alpla’s second location in the Southeast Asian country. It opened on 11 February 2025 following a year of construction, and will replace Prachinburi as Alpla’s headquarters in Thailand.
In addition to production and administration, the site includes a technical centre for product development and the company’s first ‘StudioA’ in the Asia-Pacific region for designing new packaging solutions with customers.
Philipp Lehner, Alpla’s CEO, commented: “Our involvement in Thailand more than 20 years ago represented the start of our activities in Southeast Asia and is still central to our growth today. The flagship plant in Chachoengsao covers all the needs of our customers and unlocks new opportunities in the market.”
Alpla will manufacture plastic bottles, preforms, matching closures and injection-moulded parts in Chachoengsao using all core technologies.
A key focus for the site will be two newly introduced technologies, one-step injection stretch-blow moulding and injection moulding. At its Prachinburi plant, the company will concentrate fully on extrusion blow moulding in the future.
The new location in the Bangkok metropolitan region was a stand-out choice due to its customer proximity and optimal connections, Alpla said. All production lines have been producing in series since the beginning of 2025, with a workforce of more than 190 employed in Chachoengsao.
Alpla consolidated its business in Southeast Asia and China in 2022, to form the new Asia-Pacific region. That same year, the group entered recycling as a joint venture of Thai company PTT Global Chemical. The joint recycling plant Envicco, in the country’s Rayong province, supplies 30,000 tonnes of food-grade recycled PET material and 15,000 tonnes of recycled HDPE material annually.
Roland Wallner, managing director of the APAC region at Alpla, said: “The all-in-one concept strengthens our leading role as a system provider for safe, affordable and sustainable plastic packaging from a single source. Chachoengsao combines technological diversity, the highest quality and customer service under one roof. In this way, we wish to expand our market share and unlock new segments.”
