Finsbury Food Group has expanded its licensed Thorntons portfolio by launching a new celebration cake inspired by the brand’s Viennese Truffle.

The Thorntons Viennese Continental Cake is Finsbury's first cake in the Thorntons Continental range.

Launched exclusively in 160 Asda stores nationwide, the new product brings one of Thorntons Continental’s best-known chocolates into the cake aisle, targeting shoppers looking for a more premium celebration treat.

The 16-serving cake features layers of chocolate and vanilla sponge, combined with rich chocolate frosting. It is finished with milk chocolate curls, decorative piping and Thorntons Viennese Truffles from the Continental range.

The cake has an RRP of £17 and is being supported by in-store and online media, alongside sampling activity designed to introduce shoppers to the new product.

Finsbury said the launch reflects growing consumer interest in premium celebration cakes and demand for new ways to enjoy established confectionery brands.

David Cotter, brand manager at Finsbury Food Group, said: “This is the first cake Finsbury has created as part of the Thorntons Continental range, so it’s an exciting step for us and one we see a lot of potential in."

Cotter continued: “With a clear appetite for new Thorntons products beyond the chocolate box, we jumped at the opportunity to create something special to not only impress existing lovers of the brand but also attract new consumers.”

The launch also comes as the Thorntons Continental range records growth in the boxed chocolate market. According to Nielsen data cited by Finsbury, the range was up 10% in value and 7% in volume year-to-date to 8 August 2026.

Finsbury said the new cake is designed to capitalise on the brand’s momentum while tapping into demand for more premium options in the celebration cake category.

Claire Cox, marketing manager at Thorntons, said: “Bringing the Viennese Truffle to life as a premium celebration cake felt like the perfect way to do that."

The launch expands Finsbury’s licensed celebration cake portfolio while giving Thorntons consumers another format in which to experience one of the confectionery brand’s established products.
