G+D unveils Smart Label for location tracking

G+D unveils Smart Label for location tracking

Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) has introduced the G+D Smart Label, a new tracking solution designed to convert any package into an IoT-enabled device.

Developed in partnership with hardware specialist Sensos, the ultra-thin label, which is said to be slightly larger than a credit card, provides a cost-efficient and accurate way to track locations. Its versatility makes it suitable for a range of industries, including fleet management, parcel delivery, shipping and luxury goods monitoring.

G+D delivers an all-in-one solution with hardware, an iSIM, IoT connectivity and an IoT platform for managing connections and firmware updates, ensuring easy deployment.

It uses motion sensors to detect movement and acceleration, supported by GPS technology tested for sub-10 metres accuracy under ideal conditions.

According to the company, the Smart Label tackles critical challenges in food and beverage logistics by offering real-time shipment visibility and temperature monitoring. Tamper protection features provide alerts for unauthorised access or damage, safeguarding products from contamination.

Customisable reporting allows the device to meet specific industry needs, from tracking temperature-sensitive items like dairy and produce to ensuring compliance with food safety regulations or streamlining delivery schedules to maintain freshness. With a reusable and recyclable design, the Smart Label lowers costs as well as supports sustainability goals.

Sharath Muddaiah, head of portfolio strategy for IoT Solutions at G+D, commented: "G+D has been dedicated to designing robust and innovative solutions for the transport and logistics market, and is the market leader of solar-powered trackers with over 180,000 connected devices in the field".

"Following the launch of our award-winning first-generation Smart Label solution in 2023, we have been working on the development of an even more compact and highly accurate solution. The G+D Smart Label provides a single end-to-end solution, including dedicated service support and warranty from one source. Our industry has seen many a solution which, once sold, has limited support, and we are here to set a new trend.”

Joerg Hoerster, founder and CEO of TNP Global Trade, added: “We believe in Track & Pay’s ability to revolutionise the global finance supply chain, offering a much more secure and fraud-proof solution than the common letter of credit. The Smart Label’s slick size and active tracking capacity makes it a competitive tracking solution which is why we chose to offer it to our Track & Pay clients.”

The Smart Label device can be purchased directly from G+D and through G+D's IoT Shop for customers in Germany and the US.
