Hero Bread announces Series B fundraise

Better-for-you bread and baked goods producer, Hero Bread, has announced its Series B fundraise, bringing the total funding raised to $47.5 million. Hero Bread products are said to mimic traditional bread but with 0-2g net carbs, zero sugar, fewer calories and more protein and fibre per serving than its classic counterpart. Investors in the San Francisco-based food innovation company include Cleveland Avenue, DNS Capital, Union Grove Venture Partners, Composite Ventures, GreatPoint Ventures and 444 Capital. The food innovator will use the proceeds from the raise to accelerate the expanded availability of Hero Bread’s product line in grocery retail as well as to support future product innovation. Driven by a 54% consumer repeat purchase rate in the first five months on grocery shelves, Hero Bread has expanded its distribution from 23 grocery stores to 2,300. Founder and CEO of Hero Bread, Cole Glass, said: “This new funding will be essential to expanding our reach and fuelling product innovation so we can further our mission of creating game-changing bread and baked goods. Our early performance in the direct-to-consumer and grocery retail channels signalled to investors the incredible demand and quality of our products, so our priority going forward this year is accelerating availability to meet consumer demand both online and in retail."
