Müller relaunches Next Generation initiative to drive supply chain resilience

Müller UK & Ireland is inviting applications for the third cohort of its Next Generation initiative, as it continues to bolster supply chain resilience and reduce carbon emissions across its operations.

Müller Next Generation, first launched in 2018, is a three-year programme for Müller farmers between the ages of 25-40. It aims to develop and enhance the skills of 25 ambitious young farmers, providing them with the tools and support to build sustainable and profitable dairy businesses.

The initiative forms part of Müller's broader Sustainability Action Plan, which includes a goal to cut emissions on supplying farms by 30% by 2030. The programme focuses on areas such as the environment, animal welfare, responsible sourcing and reducing environmental impact.

Richard Collins, head of agriculture at Müller Milk & Ingredients, said: "As we work to create a better future for the dairy sector, we need to continue to tackle carbon emissions, secure the next generation of talent and drive supply chain resilience".

The programme includes tailored workshops, farm visits, keynote speakers and site tours at Müller facilities. Focus areas cover the environment, sustainability, leadership, market analysis, succession planning, marketing and business improvement.

Müller operates through two main divisions: Müller Milk & Ingredients and Müller Yogurt & Desserts. The company sources milk from 1,300 farmers across Britain and produces a wide range of branded and private label dairy products.

"We know from the first two cohorts that there are a number of dairy farmers in the UK who have a great talent and passion for the industry, and we're excited to welcome applications for the next round of future elite dairy farmers," Collins added.

The application process for the third cohort of Müller Next Generation is open until July 26 2024, with the first meeting scheduled for the autumn.
