Merchant Gourmet has extended its pulses and grains portfolio with the launch of its new ready-to-eat Black Dhal pouches. Made with coconut cream, black lentils and a balance of over 20 warming herbs and spices that provide full flavour, Merchant Gourmet’s Black Dhal is a source of protein, high in fibre, vegan and the brand says it contains 33% less salt than leading competitors. The pouches – which ready to consume in 45 seconds – were launched to provide quick and BFY meal option for UK consumers. Richard Peake, managing director at Merchant Gourmet, said: “With more and more people choosing to eat at home, we wanted to give shoppers an option for a high-quality, convenient “fake-away” that doesn’t compromise on taste or health. Our creamy Black Dhal is perfect for foodies with busy lives, looking for quick, easy and exciting meals that deliver on flavour. In August, Merchant Gourmet unveiled its new range of ‘grab and cook’ frozen pouches, including Korean-style vegetables and mixed grains, Mediterranean-style vegetables and giant couscous and Mexican-style vegetables and quinoa. The new dhal pouches are available to purchase in UK retailers now for an RRP of £2.20.
