Nestlé USA has announced that it will eliminate all FD&C synthetic colours from its US food and beverage products by mid-2026.
The move marks the final stage of a decade-long process to remove artificial colours from its portfolio.
The company has already made significant changes to many of its recipes and says remaining products will be reformulated within the next 12 months.
Nestlé said the decision aligns with its broader efforts to adapt to consumer preferences, including demand for simpler ingredients and more nutritious options. Over the years, the company has added more low- and no-sugar choices, incorporated nutrient-dense ingredients and removed unfamiliar additives.
Marty Thompson, CEO of Nestlé USA, said: “Consumers enjoy a wide variety of foods and beverages as part of their daily diet. They want choice and value shaped by a dynamic – and highly personal – combination of nutrition, quality, price and convenience. Whether it’s an easy and nutritious family meal, an occasional snack, or a satisfying cup of coffee, we are always looking for different ways to offer great tasting, compelling choices for our consumers. As their diverse dietary preferences and nutritional needs evolve, we evolve with them.”
The colour removal initiative affects products across the company’s US brands and is part of its wider focus on recipe transparency, ingredient quality and consumer trust.
