ZwitterCo launches FDA-compliant anti-fouling membranes for whey processing

ZwitterCo launches FDA-compliant anti-fouling membranes for whey processing

ZwitterCo, a US developer of organic fouling-immune membrane technology, has announced the launch of a new product line of sanitary superfiltration spiral membrane elements that are FDA-compliant for use in whey processing.

The new solution features the company's second-generation SF (superfiltration) technology and can be used by dairy companies in the production of products such as whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate.

"ZwitterCo's anti-fouling membranes enable dairy processors to fully recover performance with a shorter, faster cleaning programme that reduces chemicals, water and energy requirements and saves time and money," said Jon Goodman, ZwitterCo's vice president for food processing and specialities. "ZwitterCo is developing anti-fouling membranes that are the next evolution of membrane technology for food and dairy processors."

Previously, the company primarily focused on wastewater treatment before its move into dairy and food processing. The company was founded with a mission to 'solve the world’s water problems,' offering advanced membranes to aid with water filtration.

The membranes contain zwitterions, molecules that contain both positive and negative charges, making it electrically neutral. This technology enhances membrane life and performance in industrial wastewater, supporting sustainable water reuse and reducing chemical use.

The new solution for use in the dairy industry is making its debut at CheeseCon in the US from 15-17 April.
