Innovia Films has introduced a new white cavitated ultra low-density film, called VL40, specifically designed for ice cream flow wrap packaging.

This film is now available from Innovia's facility in Płock, Poland, and aims to enhance packaging solutions for ice cream manufacturers across Europe.

The VL40 film is engineered to perform effectively on high-speed flow wrap machines, a common method used in the ice cream industry to preserve product quality until consumption.

"Nothing screams summer more than ice cream, and we are proud to offer our new VL40 white cavitated film as an excellent partner for one of our favourite summer treats," said Alasdair McEwen, head of the European packaging division at Innovia.

Significant modifications to Innovia's extrusion lines enabled the production of this high-gloss white coextruded OPP film, which features a wide heat seal range.

Piotr Piasny, general manager at Innovia Films in Płock, highlighted the film's high puncture resistance, an essential quality for protecting valuable ice cream products and minimising food waste.

Additionally, the film's printability allows manufacturers to achieve superior graphic appeal, enhancing the overall consumer experience with easy-to-open packaging.

The VL40 film is designed to withstand various climatic conditions, although it should not be stored at temperatures exceeding 104°F (40°C). Under optimal storage conditions, the film can maintain its integrity for up to six months without risk of deterioration.

Innovia Films is currently offering the VL40 film for testing.
