Labatt Breweries of Canada invests $9m in new packaging machinery
Labatt Breweries of Canada is investing $9 million in its Turning Point Brewery in British Columbia. The investment will support the installation of new machinery to remove plastic rings and introduce alternative can packaging formats. The deal will see Turning Point Brewery join Labatt's St. John's, Newfoundland and London, Ontario, locations, in eliminating single-use plastic in packaging. The new machinery was installed in December 2023, with testing and production beginning earlier this year. According to the company, Cutwater Spirits is one of the first brands to use the new packaging system, starting production at Turning Point in November 2023. Jeff Ryan, VP of legal and corporate affairs at Labatt Breweries of Canada, said: "This investment in our facility in Delta, British Columbia, is part of Labatt's ongoing capital spending to enhance our Canadian facilities and processes. By investing in new machinery to eliminate plastic rings when packing cans, we are taking another step forward towards a more sustainable future." Jill McKnight, executive director at Delta Chamber of Commerce, commented: "This investment into Delta, BC, is a testament to Labatt's commitment to a more sustainable future, the facility and our community. We recognise the importance of protecting and conserving Delta's natural assets, and it is always wonderful to see our members taking actions and making commitments through investments." Ryan added: "Expanding the capabilities of the Turning Point Brewery is an important aspect of our ability to meet consumer demand for premium ready-to-drink products".
