Kraft Heinz’s cream cheese brand Philadelphia is entering the baking category with the launch of Philadelphia Frosting.

The new product is made with fresh milk and cream – Philadelphia says it is the ‘first refrigerated cream cheese frosting from a mainstream brand in the US’.

The brand’s culinary team at Philadelphia spent a year and a half carefully crafting the recipe, which is said to mirror the taste of homemade frosting.

The result combines Philadelphia’s signature creaminess with a sweet and tangy balanced taste and can be used on cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls or fresh fruit, for example.

Becca Dunphey, president of Taste, Meals and Snacking at The Kraft Heinz Company, said: “Bringing the creamy deliciousness of Philadelphia to the frosting category just makes sense and it’s a great example of how we’re giving our fans new ways they can enjoy Philly in the kitchen. Our team has worked tirelessly to perfect a frosting recipe worthy of the Philadelphia name, and we are excited to bring this game changing innovation to market.”

Dunphey continued: “With Philadelphia Frosting, consumers don’t need to compromise on taste or convenience, they can be confident that they’re getting the delicious Philadelphia experience every time”.

At the beginning of the year, Philadelphia launched limited-edition, no-hole bagels, named Bagel Wholes, into select bakeries in North America, which the brand said provided a 'first-of-its-kind solution that offers more space' for spreadable foods.

Philadelphia Frosting will be available in 16oz tubs for $4.99 at select retailers across the US.
