Saputo plans to shut down a dairy facility in the UK in the coming year, putting over 150 jobs at risk. The dairy company informed employees at the Frome, Somerset, site last year about its plant to relocate cheese packing operations from the Frome location to its existing facility in Nuneaton. Saputo told FoodBev that around 170 employees at the Frome plant "are affected by this decision," while 180 new positions are being created in Nuneaton. The company said: "Employees have been offered the opportunity to relocate to Nuneaton and everyone has been provided with outplacement support". It added: "Collective consultation is currently underway, so we cannot yet confirm when exactly the site will close although it is expected to be in the first half of 2024, when all remaining employees will be made redundant". "Decisions such as this are never taken lightly. We believe that relocating these operations is right for the long-term future of Saputo Dairy UK as we maintain our efforts to pursue additional efficiencies and decrease costs while strengthening our market presence."
