Tetra Pak offers new factory-wide sustainability solutions

Tetra Pak has unveiled ‘Factory Sustainable Solutions,’ a new offering comprising a factory-wide approach to energy, water and cleaning-in-place (CIP) optimisation. Developed as part of Tetra Pak’s broader sustainability portfolio, the business offers food and beverage producers a tailored blend of technologies and plant integration capabilities. It aims to support producers in optimising energy and resource consumption, which will help them meet sustainability ambitions and reduce operational costs. Solutions can be integrated at any stage to recover and reduce the consumption of resources such as energy, water and chemicals. Customers can choose the right technologies and integration solutions for their needs, under the guidance of Tetra Pak’s advice on the best practice set-up for their line or facility. The result will be a customised pipes and installation diagram that optimises water, energy and CIP. ‘Factory Sustainable Solutions’ offers technologies such as nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. Nanofiltration reclaims caustic cleaning liquid used for CIP, with Tetra Pak's solution allowing for the recovery of clean detergent chemicals and water for future re-use, enabling up to 90% recovery of the total spent CIP liquid. The reverse osmosis offering utilises Tetra Pak’s membrane filtration technology to improve resource efficiency across multiple applications, including milk separation and water re-use. Tetra Pak is also collaborating with partners to offer additional solutions, including heat pump technology in collaboration with Olvondo Technology A/S and Johnson Controls; and solar thermal collectors in collaboration with Absolicon. Nicole Uvenbeck, director for Factory Sustainable Solutions and OEM Components at Tetra Pak, said: “To date, we have mainly focused on machine and line optimisation, and we came to realise the overwhelming benefit of replicating this at a factory level, providing a more holistic approach to optimisation”. She added: “Factory Sustainable Solutions is an evolution of our expertise, spanning water, energy and CIP recovery. All of this combined will redefine how we support our customers in achieving their sustainability ambitions, while reducing their operational costs.”
