Japanese probiotic milk producer Yakult Honsha is set to start construction of its second manufacturing plant in the Philippines, investing about PHP 2 billion (approximately $34 million). Yakult said that the new site was built due to a surge in demand attributed to market growth in Mindanao, as well as its southern regions and the Visayas. The approximately 42,000-square-metres plant is set to initially produce 1.38 million bottles daily. Following "facility enhancement," the site's maximum production capacity is expected to double to 2.76 million bottles per day, as stated in a statement. Located in El Salvador City, the facility will produce Yakult, with plans to introduce Yakult Light following the upgrade.
