Ben & Jerry’s founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield have explored the possibility of repurchasing the ice cream brand from Unilever, according to a Bloomberg report citing sources familiar with the discussions.
The pair have held preliminary talks in recent months and may seek support from socially conscious investors, the sources said. Given Ben & Jerry’s potential valuation in the billions, significant financial backing would be required. There is no certainty a deal will materialise.
Cohen and Greenfield sold Ben & Jerry’s to Unilever in 2000 for $326 million.
A Unilever spokesperson told FoodBev that the ice cream business is not for sale, stating: “As confirmed during our 2024 FY results announcement, we are on track to separate the ice cream business by way of a demerger”.
“Ben & Jerry’s is an important part of the ice cream business, and it’s not for sale.”
