Food-tech company CarobWay has launched a new prebiotic fibre, called CarobBiome.
This ingredient, derived from the ancient carob fruit, is positioned to meet the growing consumer demand for natural solutions that promote gut health and metabolic wellness.
CarobBiome distinguishes itself in the crowded prebiotic market with its unique composition, which includes 85% fibres made up of both soluble and insoluble fractions.
This formulation is designed to provide gut benefits without the bloating and discomfort commonly associated with other fibre sources.
Udi Alroy, CEO and co-founder of CarobWay, highlighted the product's advantages: “Not all prebiotics are equal. CarobBiome is specifically designed to ease bloating while offering a clean, natural and nutritious ingredient option".
The increasing interest in gut health and weight management among consumers has created a ripe market for prebiotic ingredients. CarobBiome is particularly relevant in light of the rising popularity of GLP-1 therapies, which are being adopted for weight loss and metabolic regulation.
As consumers become more health-conscious, they seek fibre-rich foods that not only support digestion but also enhance nutrient absorption and satiety.
According to recent findings from Innova Market Insights, fibre is now the second most sought-after functional ingredient among consumers, trailing only protein. This trend is especially pronounced among younger demographics, who are increasingly interested in prebiotic benefits.
CarobBiome aims to capitalise on this shift by offering a versatile ingredient suitable for a wide array of applications, like baked goods, snacks, meal replacements and shakes – all compatible with GLP-1 diets.
The prebiotic fibre is not only beneficial for gut health but also contributes to metabolic balance by potentially stimulating the release of GLP-1, a hormone that regulates appetite and blood sugar levels.
With its neutral flavour profile and heat stability, CarobBiome can be incorporated into various food and beverage formulations without altering taste.
CarobBiome is produced from upcycled carob pulp, aligning with the growing consumer preference for eco-friendly products. Carob trees, known for their resilience and low resource requirements, thrive in non-arable lands and require minimal water, fertilisers or pesticides.
This regenerative approach not only supports sustainable agriculture but also contributes to carbon sequestration and soil health.
