Cathedral City unveils high-protein, half-fat cheddar range

Saputo Dairy-owned Cathedral City has launched a new high-protein, half fat cheddar range in the UK.

The new product line, which includes block, sliced, grated and mini formats, aims to cater to the evolving demands of health-conscious consumers.

The High Protein cheese range boasts 30g of protein content per 100g while containing 50% less fat than traditional cheddar.

This launch aligns with broader market trends, as the global high-protein food sector is projected to expand by $40.67 billion from 2022 to 2027. In the UK alone, the protein market is expected to exceed £500 million by 2029, highlighting the increasing consumer preference for protein-rich products.

Targeting millennials and Gen Z, Cathedral City’s new range responds to research indicating that these demographics prioritize spending on healthier food options. These generations view healthy eating as not only accessible but also a source of enjoyment.

“Consumers are looking for high-quality, nutritious options that do not compromise on taste,” said Abi Armson, senior brand manager at Cathedral City. “Our new range is designed to meet this demand, providing the beloved cheddar flavor with the added benefits of high protein and reduced fat.”

The introduction of this range complements Cathedral City’s existing portfolio, which includes lighter, lactose-free and plant-based products tailored to diverse dietary needs.

The new cheddar formats aims to appeal to various culinary applications and snacking occasions, positioning Cathedral City to strengthen its foothold in the competitive cheese market.
