Ferrero Group has made a substantial $445 million investment to expand its production facility in Brantford, Ontario in Canada. This expansion is expected to create approximately 500 new jobs and enhance the company's manufacturing capabilities in the region.
The investment will facilitate the production of new products, including the launch of Ferrero Rocher Chocolate Squares, a new global innovation with its first manufacturing line in Ontario. It will also feature a production line for Nutella Biscuits, marking the first time this product will be produced outside of Europe. This strategic move underscores Ferrero's intent to diversify its product offerings in North America while reinforcing its commitment to local sourcing and manufacturing.
Ontario premier Doug Ford welcomed the announcement, highlighting the significance of this investment during a period of global economic uncertainty. "At a time when businesses are facing challenges, this investment represents a vote of confidence in Ontario’s manufacturing sector," he said. The expansion will increase Ferrero's workforce in Brantford to over 1,800 employees, solidifying its position as the city’s largest employer.
Ferrero's expansion is supported by a $36 million funding commitment from the Ontario government through the Invest Ontario Fund. The investment aims to enhance the company’s production efficiency by incorporating advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics, which will improve productivity and operational capabilities.
Vic Fedeli, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, added: “With a highly skilled workforce and competitive business environment, Ontario continues to stand out as a trusted partner for both domestic and international businesses looking to grow in the face of global economic uncertainty. We’re thrilled to welcome this investment by Ferrero and look forward to seeing their operations catalyse economic growth and innovation in Brantford.”
This development aligns with Ontario’s broader strategy to strengthen its food manufacturing sector, which plays a vital role in the province's economy. The food processing industry accounted for approximately 830,000 jobs in Ontario in 2024, and initiatives like the Advancing Ontario Made Manufacturing Plan are designed to support growth and competitiveness in this sector.
Eric Houdet, senior vice president of Ferrero Canada, commented: “We are grateful for the ongoing support of the province and the City of Brantford, who recognise the invaluable contributions of the food industry. As the largest employer in Brantford, this investment and hundreds of new employees will bolster the local economy and help us bring amazing treats to more people around the world.”
