Mettler Toledo is expanding its x-ray reclaim foreign-material re-inspection services with a new facility in Dallas, Texas, scheduled to open 5 October.

The facility is designed to support food, beverage, ingredient, personal care and pet food manufacturers across Texas and surrounding markets that need to evaluate quarantined products following suspected foreign-material incidents.

The Dallas operation will provide professionally managed re-inspection, contaminant extraction, application validation and documented reporting. Manufacturers will be able to ship affected finished goods to the facility or request mobile re-inspection services at their own sites.

JP Perreault, head of x-ray reclaim services at Mettler Toledo, said: “Manufacturers need rapid access to reliable inspection resources when responding to potential foreign material incidents. The Dallas facility strengthens our ability to support customers through both dedicated in-house re-inspection and mobile operations deployed directly to customer sites.”

The Dallas facility will offer manufacturers an alternative to conducting re-inspection within their own production environments. Quarantined finished goods can be transported to the dedicated facility, where the x-ray reclaim team will manage product intake, inspection, contaminant extraction and documentation.

Mettler Toledo said the service is intended to accommodate different project sizes and product types. Before a project begins, application testing is carried out to assess the product, packaging, suspected contaminant and inspection objectives. The results are used to establish detection thresholds and determine an appropriate inspection approach.

According to the company, mobile deployments are typically available within 48 hours following application validation and project authorisation, subject to project scope, location, equipment requirements and scheduling.

Mettler Toledo says the combination of fixed-site and mobile services is intended to give manufacturers flexibility in determining how to manage affected inventory, depending on factors such as product volume, logistics, facility capacity and response timelines.

X-ray reclaim services use Mettler Toledo's PXT photon-counting X-ray inspection technology. The technology is designed to detect a range of foreign materials, including ferrous, non-ferrous and stainless-steel contaminants, as well as glass, stone, bone, mineralised contaminants and selected low-density materials.

PXT photon-counting technology is also available in the company's Eagle product line.

Application testing forms part of the X-ray Reclaim process, with testing used to determine detection capabilities for the specific combination of product, packaging and suspected contaminant.

For manufacturers dealing with quarantined inventory, the testing and validation process can help establish an inspection strategy before larger-scale re-inspection begins.

The Dallas opening forms part of Mettler Toledo's broader expansion of x-ray reclaim capacity across North America.

The company says the new facility will add a regional in-house option while also supporting the coordination of mobile projects at customer sites. It has also indicated that further updates regarding planned enhancements to its Ontario, Canada, operation are expected later in 2026.
