Mettler Toledo unveils new X52 Dual Energy x-ray solution

Mettler Toledo unveils new X52 Dual Energy x-ray solution

Mettler Toledo has announced the release of its new X52 Dual Energy x-ray inspection system, designed to meet the demands of challenging applications in packaged products.

Completing the technology provider’s X2 series, the new X52 aims to ‘set a new standard in detection capabilities at an incredible price point’. Its software provides increased adaptability by seamlessly transitioning between single energy, dual energy or both modes to optimise system performance, depending on the application.

In single energy mode, it identifies a wide range of contaminants including glass, metal, mineral stone, calcified bone, dense plastic and rubber compounds based on their material composition, providing thorough inspection for product safety and quality.

Dual energy mode further enhances accuracy by analysing the materials’ densities, advancing detection to preserve consumer wellbeing and uphold industry standards.

According to Mettler Toledo, its latest system ‘excels in efficiency and accuracy’ by detecting foreign body contaminants while simultaneously completing a broad range of quality assurance checks.

Its technology is designed to enable significant reduction of false rejects, easily distinguishing between genuine contaminants and product variations. This can minimise unnecessary production halts and disruptions, boosting productivity and reducing downtime and cost, as well as minimising waste.

The system’s proprietary Advanced Material Discrimination (AMD) and ContamPlus software allow for increased sensitivity, offering more precise detection even in challenging scenarios, such as products that are overlapping or vary in thickness.

Mike Pipe, head of global sales and product management at Mettler Toledo Safeline X-ray, said the launch marks “a pivotal leap forward in product inspection technology”.

He commented: “With its forward-thinking design, the X52 future-proofs manufacturers by detecting unwanted contaminants in even the most challenging packages. Its unmatched performance, innovative features and comprehensive support set a new standard for product integrity and reliability. We are thrilled to provide manufacturers with the tools they need for enhanced product safety, quality and compliance now and in the future.”

The X52 system will be demonstrated at Pack Expo in Chicago, US, 3-6 November 2024.
