A new premium gin has launched to market in the UK, Aureus Vita, crafted using an innovative approach that applies the ‘Golden Ratio’ of 1:1.618 to the world of gin-making.
John Hall, founder of the Trevethan Distillery based in Cornwall, UK, created the new gin using his unique Fibonacci-Hall Distillation Method – a process inspired by the Fibonacci sequence. It applies the ‘Golden Ratio’ of 1:1.618, famously found throughout nature, art and architecture, to the gin-making process, aiming to ‘reimagine’ production of the spirit through the alchemy of mathematics and science.
Distilled with the unique and patent-pending Fibonacci-Hall still, the gin applies the Golden Ratio to extraction, distillation and dilution for ‘unparalleled balance’ and complexity.
Extraction begins with precise equations to calculate botanical quantities, ensuring a 1:1.618 ratio by weight between each of up to ten botanicals including juniper, delivering classic pine notes, and rare baobab seeds imparting a citrusy, sherbet-like quality. Eight additional botanical ingredients remain secret.
The base spirit is diluted to 61.8% ABV, before being re-distilled with the botanicals aligning with the Golden Ratio to optimise flavour extraction from each botanical ingredient. Finally, the gin is diluted to maintain this same ratio between water and alcohol, ensuring a balanced solution of water, alcohol and oils.

Founder and master distiller, Hall, said the method guarantees ‘harmonious flavours’ and enables precise adjustments with scientific precision. The gin is distilled once a year in the autumn when the juniper and baobab have not long been harvested, so is limited in production with each year’s expression unique. This year marks the first vintage from 2024’s production.
The spirit is described as ‘powerful, with a smooth and bold flavour profile,’ while being ‘exceptionally versatile,’ ideally suited to martinis or even low-alcohol cocktails crafted with smaller measures thanks to its intensity of flavour.
Hall commented: “For a generation, gin has been made in much the same way, but with the Fibonacci-Hall Distillation Method, we’re challenging that tradition. This represents our commitment to precision and innovation, creating a gin that’s both timeless and groundbreaking. We invite bartenders, adventurers, and connoisseurs to experience something truly extraordinary with Aureus Vita.”
Aureus Vita has launched into retail exclusively at Selfridges and online with an RRP of £175 per bottle. It is also available throughout March through a collaboration with Scarfes Bar at the Rosewood London, which will showcase a trio of Aureus Vita serves for the month.
