UK start-up Nuisance Drinks has unveiled the latest addition to its range of botanical beverages, a damson and dandelion tonic.
The new product pairs the light, bitter and slightly sweet flavours of dandelion with sharp notes of damson, tapping into the trend of ‘new-stalgia’ – products that revisit familiar consumer favourites while adding a modern twist.
Adult soft drinks brand Nuisance Drinks was founded in 2020 by entrepreneur Hugo Morrisey, born out of his interest in foraging and a goal of recreating a family recipe for nettle cordial. The founder explained that the popularity of his brew within the UK’s farmer’s markets suggested potential for a far-reaching range of soft drinks that paired popular flavours with ‘forgotten, left-field’ ingredients.
Morrisey commented: “I knew from the outset that I wanted to create a range of clean-deck, low-calorie adult soft drinks with clear sustainable convictions, that could be drunk either straight from the can or as the perfect mixer with vodka or gin. In each instance, the vision was to blend deliciously distinct everyday flavours with some of the British Countryside’s unceremoniously shunned shrubbery.”
All products in Nuisance’s range, including the new damson and dandelion tonic, contain less than 50 calories each. The new product joins existing beverage flavours in the brand’s portfolio, including bramble and rosemary; nettle and elderflower; pink grapefruit and basil; rhubarb and ginger; and mint, chilli and cucumber.
