Progresso launches soup drops for cold and flu season

Progresso launches soup drops for cold and flu season

Progresso, a brand under General Mills, has introduced a unique product aimed at the cold and flu season: Soup Drops. This offering reimagines the classic chicken noodle soup experience into a hard candy format, catering to consumers seeking convenience during illness.

The Soup Drops, described as "soup you can suck on," are positioned as a portable alternative to traditional soup. This product launch coincides with National Soup Month, a strategic move to capitalise on increased consumer interest in comfort foods during colder months.

MC Comings, vice president and business unit director for Progresso, said: ““When you’re sick, nothing is truly more reassuring than chicken noodle soup. So, we thought, why stop at the soup bowl? We took the beloved flavours of...chicken noodle soup and packed them into a fun, savoury candy Soup Drop for a totally new way to enjoy the taste you love whenever and wherever you want.”

The product is designed to evoke the taste of Progresso’s Chicken Noodle Soup, incorporating elements such as broth, vegetables and chicken into a hard candy format. This approach not only provides a novel eating experience but also aims to attract consumers looking for quick and comforting solutions without the need for preparation.

Available exclusively through the company's website, the Soup Drops are packaged in a can resembling the traditional Progresso soup can, containing 20 individually wrapped candies. Each purchase also includes a can of the original Chicken Noodle Soup, priced competitively at $2.49, which reflects the typical cost of a Progresso product.

Note: FoodBev has contacted Progresso to confirm this is not an April Fools' joke.
