Shimadzu unveils triple quadrupole liquid chromatograph mass spectrometer series

Analytical instrumentation leader Shimadzu Corporation has launched its new LCMS-TQ RX Series of triple quadrupole liquid chromatograph mass spectrometers (LC-MS), touting improved performance and operational efficiency features.

The series, comprising the LCMS-8060RX, LCMS-8050RX and LCMS-8045RX models, builds on Shimadzu’s reputation for high-quality analytical instruments. Key enhancements include greater measurement sensitivity, improved data stability, reduced downtime and lower energy consumption.

“Regulations in the pharmaceutical, environmental and food industries are becoming stricter, resulting in a growing need for more accurate data and highly stable equipment,” Shimadzu said in a statement. “The LCMS-TQ RX Series addresses these demands.”

The triple quadrupole LC-MS market is expected to grow by at least 8% annually as the applications and sectors using the technology continue to diversify, the company noted. Routine analysis, which accounts for 40% of the TQ LC-MS market, requires reliable data and minimized instrument downtime.

Shimadzu’s new CoreSpray nozzle technology in the ion source helps stabilise sample ionisation, improving data reliability. The instruments also feature an automated calibration function to ensure optimal performance and reduce interruptions.

Furthermore, the LCMS-TQ RX Series includes an ‘ecology mode’ that monitors the instrument’s status and automatically powers down components when not in use, reducing energy consumption by approximately 31%, Shimadzu said.

“Through this series, Shimadzu will heighten the efficiency of laboratory work related to pharmaceuticals, food product development and environmental inspection, contributing to the growth of research and development in healthcare, green transformation and other sectors,” the company added.
