Mondi, a sustainable packaging and paper company, has finalised a €95 million investment aimed at boosting efficiency and sustainability at its Świecie containerboard mill in Poland.
This upgrade is expected to increase the mill's kraftliner production capacity by 55,000 tonnes annually, addressing the rising demand for heavy-duty packaging solutions.
The extensive project includes significant upgrades to paper machines PM2 and PM5, the installation of a new anaerobic treatment plant with an integrated cooling system, and enhancements to the pulp mill, recycled fibre line and energy recovery systems.
These improvements are designed to elevate product quality while simultaneously reducing water consumption and wastewater emissions, thereby increasing overall energy efficiency.
Since completing the upgrades in June, Mondi has expanded its ProVantage SmartKraft Brown product line, offering a wider range of grammage options.
The enhanced brown kraftliner is engineered to provide exceptional strength and runnability, catering to diverse packaging needs while emphasising sustainability.
Tomasz Katewicz, managing director of Mondi Świecie, said: “The completion of this project marks a milestone for Mondi Świecie, enabling us to advance our operations and deliver even higher-quality paper to our customers”.
This investment aligns with Mondi's overarching commitment to sustainability, as outlined in its Mondi Action Plan 2030. The initiative not only aims to improve operational efficiency but also reinforces the company’s dedication to sustainable practices within the industry.
Furthermore, the project is expected to bolster the local economy by providing competitive employment opportunities and contributing to the region's economic development.
