Molson Coors Beverage Company has announced the appointment of Phil Whitehead as president and chief executive officer of its EMEA and APAC division, effective January 1 2025.

This move comes as the company aims to strengthen its position in the competitive beverage market across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific.

Whitehead, who has served as managing director of Molson Coors’ Western Europe region for the past eight years, has a robust background in the industry, having joined the company in 2006.

His ascent through the ranks includes roles such as European supply chain director, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of both operations and market dynamics.

During his tenure as managing director, Whitehead has driven growth for key brands such as Carling and Coors. He has also played a role in the premiumisation and diversification of the company’s portfolio, overseeing the introduction of international brands like Staropramen, Cobra and Madri Excepcional.

Notably, he facilitated the acquisition of Aspall Cyder in 2019 and established a distribution partnership with Rekorderlig Cider in the UK, reflecting the company’s strategy to expand beyond traditional beer offerings.

Gavin Hattersley, global president and CEO of Molson Coors, stated: “Phil has proven himself to be a strategic business leader capable of driving successful results. His strong combination of leadership traits will benefit our EMEA and APAC operations.”

Whitehead, a former Chair of the British Beer and Pub Association, has been an advocate for the beer and hospitality sectors in the UK.

In response to his new role, he remarked: “Leading our Western Europe business has been an honour. I look forward to this next chapter with a company that has been my home for 18 years, and to collaborating with my colleagues to drive our business forward”.
