The relocation of production will shift operations from the Bulgarian site to other facilities within Unilever’s extensive network, including the Betty Ice plant in Suceava, Romania, by April 2025.

This consolidation effort is designed to enhance production synergies and streamline operations across the region, ensuring that the company can maintain competitive efficiency while adapting to evolving market demands. Unilever's commitment to sustainability and long-term viability remains at the forefront of this decision.

According to company representatives, the transition is intended to bolster the sustainable development of the division's operations, aligning with global trends towards more efficient and environmentally friendly manufacturing practices.

In a statement to FoodBev Media, the company said: "This decision comes with the plan to facilitate production synergies and ensure sustainable development of the division operations for long term future fit. Unilever will keep evaluating and monitoring its operations world-wide to ensure efficiency and sustainability."

Despite the closure of the Veliko Tarnovo facility, Unilever has assured stakeholders that the variety of ice cream products available to Bulgarian consumers will remain unchanged.

The company plans to sustain its investment in the region, focusing on delivering popular products while also aiming to create a positive societal impact.
