Vadasz debuts new hot sauce range

Vadasz debuts new hot sauce range

UK pickles and ferments brand Vadasz has expanded its portfolio into a new category with a new range of fresh hot sauces.

The range includes Kimchi Ketchup, Hot Pepper Sauce and Hot Jalapeno Sauce, building on the success of Vadasz’s fresh condiments, kimchi and pickles.

The Compleat Food Group-owned Vadasz said it identified a gap in the market for premium, flavourful and healthier versions of consumer favourite condiments and sauces.

Its new sauces are made entirely from natural ingredients, leveraging the health-preserving qualities of pickling and fermenting, and are low in sugar. They also aim to meet demand for fresh flavours and heat, with many consumers seeking more unique and diverse sauce options.

Kimchi Ketchup has been designed to provide a lower-sugar alternative to tomato ketchup, with the average bottle containing 78g of sugar, Vadasz said in a press release. The product has less than 2g of sugar, and is live cultured and naturally fermented, made using traditional kimchi ingredients. It responds to the growing popularty of kimchi in the UK, and can be used to add umami flavour to dishes such as eggs, grilled cheese sandwiches or fries.

Hot Pepper Sauce is also live cultured and naturally fermented, and contains no sugar. Its is made with red pepper, scotch bonnet, ground coriander, nutmeg and apple cider vinegar, providing a ‘fresh but deep’ heat for dishes such as pho and stir fries.

Finally, the Hot Jalapeno Sauce is produced using the same cold brined process that the brand uses to create its Jalapeno Relish and Garlic & Dill Pickles. The product’s chilled nature and cold brining creates a hot yet sweet sauce that can be used to add flavour to dishes such as tacos and lamb kofta kebabs.

Yvonne Adam, chief marketing officer at The Compleat Food Group, said: “Although worth £970m, the ambient sauces category is in volume decline, and all products are pasteurised and high in sugar, which can put off health-conscious shoppers. In comparison, the chilled pickles and kimchi category is seeing incredible growth of +62%.”

She added that Vadasz saw the opportunity to introduce its health ethos into the sauces category with a range of “exciting and punchy” flavours with added nutritional value.

“We’re excited to be launching this innovative new range, which is the start of a strong NPD pipeline as we look to transform more categories in other areas of store in the next year,” Adam concluded.
