Ireland-based Carbery Group and its flavour division, Synergy, have formed a strategic partnership with EIT Food, Europe’s leading food innovation initiative.
Co-funded by the EU, EIT Food unites industry leaders, start-ups, researchers and policymakers to drive the transformation of the food system into one that is sustainable, healthy and trusted.
The collaboration will focus on dairy innovation, protein diversification, biotech development and healthy ageing.
By working with stakeholders across the supply chain – from farmers and suppliers to manufacturers and retailers – the partnership aims to make sustainable, protein-based nutrition more accessible and appealing to consumers. It will also explore scalable production models that balance quality with nutrition and taste.
Sarah O’Neill, global strategy director at Carbery Group, said: “Innovation and sustainability have long been central to Carbery’s strategy. From our roots in dairy to our growing investment in biotechnology, this partnership with EIT Food enhances our ability to collaborate across the food ecosystem and deliver future-focused nutrition solutions. By combining our scientific expertise with Synergy’s flavour capabilities, we can help ensure that what’s good for people and planet also tastes great.”
Paola Bassi, Synergy Flavour’s marketing director for Europe, added: “Great taste is essential to consumer adoption of sustainable nutrition. Synergy is proud to play a role in helping Carbery bring better-tasting, functional solutions to market. Our partnership with EIT Food reflects our commitment to innovation through collaboration as we tackle global food system challenges together.”
EIT Food addresses the challenges facing the global food industry, from climate change, nutrition-related health issues, resource scarcity and food waste. The initiative works to span circular food systems, digital traceability, sustainable agriculture and personalised nutrition.
