DSM-Firmenich partners with Zenkei to boost sustainability of Japan’s egg production

DSM-Firmenich partners with Zenkei to boost sustainability of Japan’s egg production

DSM-Firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health has formed a partnership with Zenkei Company, a livestock nutrition firm, to drive sustainability in Japan’s feed and egg production industries.

The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to implement DSM-Firmenich’s Sustell, a life cycle assessment platform, to measure and improve the environmental footprint of animal proteins.

The signing ceremony marks a key milestone in Zenkei Company’s sustainability journey. By leveraging Sustell, both companies aim to set new benchmarks in quality and sustainability for Japan’s egg industry.

The partnership will see Zenkei implement DSM-Firmenich’s cloud-based solution to measure, optimise, and reduce the environmental footprint of feed and animal protein.

Mongkol Kaewsutas, director of precision services for Greater APAC at DSM-Firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health, said: “This partnership represents a significant step forward in promoting sustainable practices across the egg production value chain. By utilising the Sustell platform, Zenkei can leverage precise data to optimiSe operations, reduce environmental impact and support Japan’s broader sustainability objectives.”

Shotaro Takasugi, director and general manager of Zenkei, added: “To maximise the efficiency and sustainability of nutritious animal protein, we must go beyond effective feed additives and improved farm management. It is equally important to utilise nutrients that are otherwise unavailable for human consumption, such as ‘eco-feed’ derived from processed food waste. This is why the environmental footprint calculation provided by Sustell is an indispensable component of our strategy.”
